LET'S GET CRACKING

18 April 2022

Merry belated Easter! Today's article is about eggs.

A staple of virtual pets and monster raising games, it's a wonder why nobody really thinks to put a spin on things when it comes to hatching creatures that clearly aren't based on egg-laying animals. Well, besides maybe streamlining breeding and the like.

Riftcast wasn't all that different in this regard (apart from the 2 fully grown species who spawn from crates instead). Just about everyone hatched from eggs, but what those eggs looked like depended on the version/Class you picked.

Chasers are born from giant cells, Hawker and Trooper hatch from your typical eggs, and Blighters spawn from roe. A touch more realistic than spectacled eggs.

'Course, it wasn't all too sensical to have, say, the rabbit-like Halduffy and Galmagus come from an egg. Even Laminero had the excuse of being more crab than beetle.

With the expanded roster (and the fact that all members of a particular Class still share the same eggs), some of these choices feel extra odd, not that it'd hurt to change things up before the distant launch.

One thing's for sure though, breeding is a no-go.
